Caldwell Companies announced today that The Kroger Co. has purchased 18 acres of designated commercial land in its Towne Lake community in northwest Houston. The national grocer is scheduled break ground on a 120,000-square-foot store in the fall of 2012 at the southwest corner of Tuckerton Road and Barker Cypress.
The new Kroger store is the second large commercial site to begin construction in the Towne Lake community. The next major development for the master planned community will be The Boardwalk at Towne Lake – a mixed-use development featuring a unique collection of waterfront restaurants, retail, and office space, centered around a large lakeside green area.
“Towne Lake residents will benefit tremendously from the convenient location of this new Kroger store,” said Fred Caldwell, president and chief executive officer of Caldwell Companies. “Additionally, the collection of high-quality restaurants in The Boardwalk area will be a regional draw, providing a place for food, entertainment and commerce for northwest Houston. Towne Lake’s Boardwalk will be one of the city’s most unique destinations for dining and entertainment.”
The Boardwalk will have waterside parking for resident boats and be located on Towne Lake Parkway, allowing for additional access via road. Development is scheduled to begin later this year. Once complete, Towne Lake residents will be able to boat from home to work, restaurants, and shopping and recreational outlets.
